Having passed his comprehensive exams this spring, Michael Brinley has been awarded a 2019-20 Dissertation Research Grant by the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies, to conduct research in Russia, Armenia, Belarus, and other countries of the former Soviet Union. Michael’s dissertation is entitled “The Cities They Wanted and the Cities They Built: Soviet Chief Architects and Urban Planning in the Era of Developed Socialism, 1954-1985.” His committee consists of Ben Nathans (chair), Peter Holquist, Sophie Rosenfeld, and Domenic Vitiello (Urban Studies).
