Graduate Student Sam Finkelman to participate in Anita Hess Faculty Seminar

Samuel Finkelman has been accepted to participate in a week-long 2020 Jack and Anita Hess Faculty Seminar, Between Enemy Combatant and Racial ‘Other’: Nazi Persecution of Soviet POWs, hosted by the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies, meeting from January 6-10, 2020, at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC. This one-week seminar will examine Soviet POWs as one of the many victim groups that the Nazis deliberately persecuted in their campaign on the Eastern Front.

 

Sam is in his third year in the program, and is pursuing a dissertation entitled “Ghettos, Gulags, and Geulah: Jewish National Revival in the Soviet Union and the Collective Memory of Catastrophe, 1954-1982.”   His committee is:  Ben Nathans (chair), Warren Breckman, Peter Holquist, and Beth Wenger.
