Toshiki Kawashima awarded two grants

Toshiki Kawashima was awarded the DNP Foundation for Cultural Promotion Graphic Culture Research Grant (http://www.dnp.co.jp/foundation_e/grants/2019results.html). The DNP (Dai Nippon Printing) Foundation for Cultural Promotion provides the funding to research related to graphic design and graphic art.

He was also awarded the highly-prestigious Suntory Grant for Groundbreaking Young Researchers (Japanese page: https://www.suntory.co.jp/sfnd/research/list_wakate/2019.html).

This grant is aimed at supporting young researchers who aspire to redefine the boundaries of scholarship in the fields of humanities and social sciences.

Toshiki’s dissertation is provisionally entitled "Write Well, Work Well: An Economic History of Script Reform Movements in Early Twentieth-Century Japan."  His committee is Marc Flandreau (supervisor); Frederick Dickinson; and Sophia Rosenfeld.
