“Michael Hanchard, chair and Gustave C. Kuemmerle Professor of Africana Studiesand Director of the Marginalized Populations project, is a scholar in comparative politics with a focus in contemporary political theory, encompassing themes of nationalism, racism, xenophobia, and citizenship. His most recent book, “The Spectre of Race: How Discrimination Haunts Western Democracy,” won the 2019 Ralph J. Bunche Award from the American Political Science Association. Hanchard discusses on the wave of protests and the fight for equal rights and protections following the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and other unarmed Black women and men across the country”
